Anti-snap cylinders
Lock snapping takes seconds. Stop it for good.
Lock snapping breaks a standard euro cylinder and turns it from outside the door. It is one of the most common ways into UPVC and composite doors, and on most of them the fix is a single part: an anti-snap cylinder, fitted in one short visit and keyed to suit you.
What is covered
Anti-snap lock upgrades, job by job.
If yours is not on the list, ring and ask. A straight answer costs nothing.
-
Anti-snap euro cylinders
Rated cylinders built to sacrifice their outer section and stay locked when attacked.
-
Keyed alike
Front, back and side doors upgraded together on one key.
-
UPVC and composite doors
The doors where snapping happens, front, back and patio.
-
After a snapping attempt
A damaged cylinder replaced and the door made secure the same visit.
-
Insurance requirements
The rated cylinder your insurer asks for, fitted and keyed up.
-
Advice on the rest of the door
An honest look at the handles and fittings while the van is there.
Check your own door now: look at the face of the cylinder, where the key goes in. A kitemark with three stars, or a Sold Secure Diamond mark, means it is already rated. No marks at all is worth a call.
Warning signs
Ring before it fails completely.
Caught early, most of these are a quicker, simpler job.
Signs it is on the way out
- The cylinder sticks out past the handle by more than a few millimetres.
- There is no kitemark and no stars on the face of the cylinder.
- The cylinder came with the door and has never been changed.
- Your insurer has asked for a TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond cylinder.

What has happened?
Pick the closest one, then ring. Knowing this before the van sets off saves everyone time.
Locked out of the house or the car
The most common call there is. The lock is opened without damage wherever it allows it, and you are back in with the same key working as before. If the key is snapped in the barrel, say so on the phone and the right cylinder comes out with the van.
Have this ready
The address, whether it is a front or back door, and roughly what the lock looks like. For a vehicle, the make, model and registration.
A lock that has broken, snapped or seized
UPVC doors that will not lift and lock, handles that spin, keys that turn and do nothing. The mechanism is stripped and adjusted where it can be saved, or replaced from van stock where it cannot, and tested with you before payment.
Have this ready
Whether the door still opens, what happens when you turn the key, and a photo of the lock edge if you can take one.
Keys lost or stolen
If keys have gone missing with an address attached, the locks want changing rather than opening. Cylinders are swapped the same visit, keyed alike where you want one key for both doors, and the old keys are made useless.
Have this ready
How many doors need doing, whether you want one key to fit them all, and if anything was taken with the keys.
Vehicle key or spare remote
Keys cut, supplied and programmed for cars and commercial vehicles, including the case where the only key is gone. Spare remotes paired while you wait, at the roadside or on your drive, with no recovery truck and no dealer booking.
Have this ready
Make, model, year and registration, plus whether you still have a working key. V5 or proof of ownership will be asked for.
Typical jobs
What usually happens on site.
Every job is quoted on the phone first. This is the usual approach and how long it tends to take once the van arrives.
| Job | Usual approach | Time on site |
|---|---|---|
| Snapped or seized cylinder | Old cylinder removed, new one fitted and keyed up | Under an hour |
Times are what these jobs usually take once the van is on site, not a promise. The price is agreed on the phone before anyone sets off.
Straight answers
Anti-snap lock upgrades: what people ask.
Anything else, ring and ask. It costs nothing to find out.
What is lock snapping?
A way of breaking a standard euro cylinder so the lock can be turned from outside. It needs no special skill, which is why it is so common on UPVC and composite doors.
How do I know if my lock is anti-snap?
Look at the face of the cylinder. A kitemark with three stars, or a Sold Secure Diamond mark, means it is rated. No marks usually means a standard cylinder.
Do I need a new door?
No. On most UPVC and composite doors only the cylinder changes. The door, the handles and the multipoint mechanism stay as they are.
Can all my doors use the same key?
Yes. The new cylinders can be keyed alike so one key opens every door.
